Online Backups Are Here!

At last we have a good reliable service for backing up your files off site without the worry of waiting 3 days for the data to get there.

With ever faster broadband connections in the uk, we can now take advantage of some of the services on offer to take advantage of this.

For business’s the option of having backups on your premises is must. What if your server goes down, you accidentally delete that accounts folder from the network or a virus has reaked havoc on your shared S: drive.
having a backup is a must but consider this. What would happen if you turned up for work on monday morning and the office had ben burnt to the ground or the office above you had flooded and destroyed everything below it with water. “Are your backups recoverable with no server, no backup device, no electricity”

Eiicon online backup can backup all of your server data on a daily, hourly basis and ensure your business is covered in the event of failure.

Our online backups can even backup whole servers including exchange and SQL and is unlimited with up to 250Gb of data available.

So how can we do this?
We use incremental backup and only upload files that have changed for that day. The same equates to exchange and SQL. the backup routine makes a local copy of the databases and then look for changes between the stored and current versions and update the changes.

For peace of mind, the software can also make a local copy of the software if required.

Email Continuity and protection: What if your exchange server goes offline or goes down? Where does your email go?

Eiicon email continuity and protection, ensures that your email will get redirected and be accessible in the event your email server goes down. Imagine if your exchange server was down for 2 maybe 3 days. Our protection will allow you to carry on where you left off. All you need is an Internet connection and you can access your email like before.

Eiicon - The Business IT Solutions Company.

Eiicon gets involved in quite a few IT projects with its existing and new customers all over Scotland.

We had a challenge to provide a solution for an existing Ayrshire client, linking two buildings together about 100 yards apart. These buildings had no physical wires or connections of any kind to link them.

One solution would be to dig up the car park and water fountain and run a fibre optic cable under the ground to link the buildings but this was not an option.

Eiicon had to come up with a wireless solution that was 1. Fast 2. Reliable and 3. Secure. We then got to work.

After contacting a few suppliers, we got the equipment required to make this happen and got to work installing it.

We used Repeat-it wireless POE bridges which have a range of 3 miles. We put one on each building and erected them about 12 feet above the ground. Each wireless bridge has to be in line of sight to each other which wasn’t a problem as buildings were separated only by a car park with no obstructions.

Each unit has to be alligned  to each other. This is made simple by a small set of LEDs on the bottom of the units, very simple actually.

The POE units are particuarly good as we did not need a power source close to the unit and could install easily in the loft space when required.

Each unit has a private IP address assigned on the same range as the clients network and can easily be configured through the web interface.

All data passed between the units uses 256 bit AES encryption as well as other encryption types and is totally secure.

Speed between the units runs at 108bps which is quick enough for internet access and typical file sharing.

These units have been operational now for about 9 months and have “never” been down in that time. what a superb product.

We are always looking for new clients to sell this technology to. Just think of that little hut you have out in the yard away from the main building or that little green keepers office in the middle of the golf course. Wouldnt it be great if you could have a computer accessing emails, internet and shared files from that little shack.

Maybe you have another building that can share the broadband connection with. eiicon can make this happen. Why not give us a phone today and find out more.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could get computer support services for your business at a fraction of the cost of other suppliers.

Isn’t it great when you can do something worthwhile that can and will benefit the community and future generations alike.

Eiicon has recently completed a full I.T. infrastructure design at local children’s nursery and prep school ”Rainbow cottage Nursery” in kilwinning.

The nursery has been operating in kilwinning for many years now and has evolved to become an integral part of the community. With the expansion of the business in recent years, the nursery has now taken over 3 buildings at their site in Howgate including an old church.

Rainbow Cottage Nursery had been looking for a computer system to help in the day to day running of the business and enlisted in the help of Eiicon Professional I.T. Services.

Eiicon recommended a system that could allow all employees to access required data from any of their buildings. Eiicon designed and implemented the system which included the installation of an -

Internal and external Networked system.

Windows Based Small Business Server.

Windows based business computers.

PBX Phone system.

The end result is a company that is now totally future-proof and can communicate and manage the whole business from any location.

Rainbow Cottage Nursery also enlist in Eiicon’s Computer Maintenance Services. This ensures that their system is totally managed and protected in the event of failure.

Thoroughly professional service with the minimum of fuss. I would recommend Eiicon to everybody. Norry Gillespie from Rainbow Cottage Nursery - 11th March 2009

Windows 7 RC Released

What’s all the hype about this new operating system from Microsoft?

Is it the answer to all our prayers with the demise of windows vista. well we would like to hope so.

Even though windows vista has been around for a good couple of years now, it still has its fair share of problems, from third party compatibility, to security overkill, to lagging performance. etc etc.

Working from an I.T. Background, we find that the majority of issues we get from our helpdesk are vista related issues. Not surprising as it is the Main OS available but also as it just loves system resources.

Even though some manufactures such as Dell are still offering XP as a downgrade option, it will cost the consumer £40 to £50 more to the list price than vista.

Some issue we find just defy logic altogether with systems locking up, shutting down or the most common problem is permissions when installing software or making changes to software.

Vista requires a high spec processor and at least 2Gb ram to run smoothly but we still come across manufacturers pushing out systems with 256mb ram. Why.

Windows 7 promises to be less aggressive on hardware with 1Gb memory and 1ghz processor the minimum. This is good for all those little net books out there that will run windows 7 with ease.

Business’s up and down the country still depend on XP as an operting system due to compatibility problems with vista. Windows 7 will allow the system to run in XP mode. (what a brilliant idea) Business’s can now buy off the shelf PCs and actually use them in their business.

Don’t get too excited though. It will be at least another year before we see it readily available but eiicon will be testing this throughout this year and keep you posted on our thoughts.
